Open Volunteer Roles

Being part of an organization like American Heritage Girls is an enormous blessing and privilege for us and our daughters; it is also a great responsibility God has entrusted us with. Ensuring the program achieves its goals is of the utmost importance to each parent and young lady who has made the decision to join our Troop. As such, every family should be ready to become involved in some capacity during the year.

We welcome mothers, fathers, aunts or grandparents to share something with the Troop. Please take a moment to pray for God to show you where to serve.  We recognize that not all families can commit to major roles in the Troop. Due to various circumstances, some parents/guardians can serve during Troop meetings and activities, while other parents/guardians may need to complete their service outside of regular Troop meetings and activities. Other parents/guardians might choose a blend of both.

ALL volunteers are important but without Unit Leaders and Co-Leaders we cannot run our Troop.  The Troop will be reimbursing National Registration Fees ($40) for all Unit Leaders again this year! Daughters of Unit Leaders and Co-Leaders have first priority for girl registration.

Volunteer Position Descriptions

The following are brief explanations of each role to help you decide where to share your gifts and talents. There is something for everyone.

Troop Meeting Night Volunteers

Unit Leaders- Implement AHG programs for one age level, teach & mentor badge requirements and AHG character traits.  Participate in AHG training, attend planning meetings, share information with parents and encourage girls’ participation in troop activities.  Time commitment: avg 3 hrs/wk

Unit Co-Leaders - Collaborate with the Unit Leader in how to best work together to implement the AHG program during meetings. Be willing to fill in for your Unit Leader (e.g., execute pre-set lesson plans) if they must be absent from a meeting.

Pathfinder Team - Make this a great first year for our youngest girls! Follow the Pathfinder Book to help girls earn their beads by the end of the first year.

Tenderheart Team - Under the leadership of the Tenderheart Unit Leader, girls will be earning badges, learning leadership skills, and need general oversight for safety and fun.

Explorer Team - Under the leadership of the Explorer Unit Leader, girls will be earning badges, learning leadership skills, and need general oversight for safety and fun.

Pi/Pa Team -  Under the leadership of the Pi/Pa Unit Leader, girls will be taking on more leadership roles within the troop as they work toward their badges and awards. This level becomes more of a mentor level, as well as general unit oversight.

Floating Helper - Assist where most needed during Troop meetings throughout the program year. Unit Leads and Co-Leads are appreciative of extra hands and eyes during meetings! Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to resolve needs as they arise (provide 2 deep leadership to restroom needs, etc.). Registered adults also have the opportunity to help run a nursery for families with young children. Note, the nursery is not sponsored by AHG National but is a ministry we hope to offer to families whose parents are serving in another capacity during Troop meetings.

Other Troop Positions

Advancement  Must be detail oriented and willing to work with Troop Coordinator, Treasurer, others as needed. Purpose: meet with girls to review Level Award progress and sign off on all badges, as well as assist families with tracking badges and service on Troop Track. Assure badge history is in Troop Track so girls have record as they reach potential Stars and Stripes requirements.

Mentors for Girl Leadership Roles – Examples include Set Up/Take Down team, Photography team, Newsletter team, Promotions team.

Onboarding –  Be the “Welcome Wagon”  and help to greet new families at each meeting. Walk them through the new family packet, including Joining Award information, Troop Track information, calendar and handbook receipt. Provide new family orientation as needed, along with Troop Coordinator. Introduce the visiting family to her prospective Unit Leader and fellow girl members.

Outdoor Coordinator - Lead the effort to plan outdoor activities, such as camping, hiking, and other outdoor badgework opportunities. Plan family campout and possible member campout, or coordinate level campout by unit. Coordinate schedule, menu, food, purchase supplies, and provide detailed event communication.

Registrar –  Send out registration invitations to returning families to register for new year. Work with Treasurer to collect dues. Send out invitations throughout year to interested families. Collect Medical Release Forms for girls and adults at beginning of year/membership. Ensure new families connected with Onboarding Coordinator.

Service & Special Events – Helps with coordination of service projects for troop, for example Project Linus, Salvation Army, Food Bank, service to our Charter Organization, etc. Work with the Board and girl Level Award candidates in helping coordinate and plan one or multiple events, for example: Court of Awards refreshments, Father Daughter Dance, Mother Daughter event, Bring a Friend Day. May solicit food, coordinate purchase of needed supplies through purchase order/reimbursement process.
